About The Artist
| Jan became interested in drawing and use of color at
a young age. She began private art lessons at the age of eleven. Her favorite
subjects in art are people and animals. She
is a graduate of The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale, where
she met her husband who is also an
artist. After
graduating she spent several years in the field of illustration and graphic art
design.
She is mostly self-taught in portraiture. For over twenty years she has
had the pleasure of creating realistic watercolor commissioned portraits for families
to treasure for generations. |

Over the years Jan has also
pursued other creative projects such as wall murals, decorative painted
furniture, and custom painted home interiors. She has also taught private art
lessons to children in her home as well as in the Pediatric Unit at U.N.C.
hospital in Chapel Hill, “Kids Cards” project. A challenging and rewarding
endeavor is book illustrat ion. The books Jan had the pleasure of illustrating are
“Natural Healing” by Alexsandra Lett and “The Enchanted Ester Egg Tree” by Levenia Womble.
Jan has been a member of the
Sanford
Brush and Palette Club for fifteen years or so and
has been awarded ribbons in the areas of portraits,
miniature paintings, and oriental techniques.

Jan resides in Sanford, North
Carolinas with her husband, son, daughter and English setter. Jan also volunteers on the
Board of Directors of the t.l.c. home, inc., a residential home for profoundly
mentally retarded individuals, where her son resides.
What
Jan likes most about being an artist is the creative process, believing that the
word
“artist” is not limited to paint and palette.
Jan has recently
been exploring gourd art. |
